우리 집도 아니고
일가 집도 아닌 집
고향은 더욱 아닌 곳에서
아버지의 침상(寢床) 없는 최후(最後) 최후의 밤은
풀벌레 소리 가득 차 있었다
노령(露領)을 다니면서까지
애써 자래운 아들과 딸에게
한 마디 남겨 두는 말도 없었고,
아무을 만(灣)의 파선도
설룽한 니코리스크의 밤도 완전히 잊으셨다
목침을 반듯이 벤 채
다시 뜨시잖는 두 눈에
피지 못한 꿈의 꽃봉오리가 갈앉고
얼음장에 누우신 듯 손발은 식어 갈 뿐
입술은 심장의 영원한 정지(停止)를 가리켰다
때늦은 의원(醫員)이 아모 말없이 돌아간 뒤
이웃 늙은이의 손으로
눈빛 미명은 고요히
낯을 덮었다
우리는 머리맡에 엎디어
있는 대로의 울음을 다아 울었고
아버지의 침상 없는 최후 최후의 밤은
풀벌레 소리 가득 차 있었다.
It was not our home,
nor the home of any of our kin,
and still less our hometown.
There,on Father's last, last night
without even a bed to lie upon,
the air was filled with the sound of insects in the grass.
Though he had traveled
as far as the Russian Maritime Provinces,
struggling to raise
his sons and daughters,
he left not a single word for them.
He had completely forgotten
the shipwreck in Amur Bay,
and the desolate nights of Nikolsk,
lying straight
with his head upon a wooden pillow.
In his eyes,
never to open again,
the unopened buds
of dreams that had never bloomed
were sinking down.
As though he lay upon a sheet of ice,
his hands and feet
only grew colder,
and his lips
spoke of the heart's eternal stillness.
After the doctor,who had come too late,
left without a word,an old neighbor's hand
quietly covered his face
in the dim light before dawn.
We fell beside his head
and wept all the tears we had in us.
And on Father's last, last night
without even a bed to lie upon,
the air was filled
with the sound of insects in the gras
