아래는 내가 오래 전(2019년) S. Houlgate 교수의 헤겔의 『정신현상학』 입문 (https://www.yes24.com/product/goods/80463424)이란 책을 번역할 때 홀게이트 교수와 나눈 이메일. 이 후 나는 이런 메일을 수차례 교환하면서 이 책을 번역했고, 그가 저자 서문을 썼다. 그가 이 책의 한국어 번역본을 대하면서 반기던 모습이 지금도 눈에 선하다.

S. Houlgate 교수는 당시 <영국 헤겔학회> 회장이었고, 헤겔이나 니체 관련 다수의 책들을 썼고, 국제적으로도 지명도가 높은 철학자였다. 여러 세월이 지났지만, 나는 다시 그에게 메일을 보내서 우리 사이트로 초대하려고 한다. 아울러 나와 직간접적으로 연관이 있는 재독 철학자 한병철 교수 등 유럽의 철학자들을 다수 우리 사이트로 초대하려고 한다. 그 다음에 미국 철학자들과 일본의 철학자들도 우리 사이트에 초대할 것이다. 우리 사이트는 다국어로 설계된 개방적 구조의 국제적 플랫폼이라 서로 소통하기가 너무 좋다. 유럽의 지성인들이에게 <에세이철학회>라는 플랫폼이 크게 알려질 날이 멀지 않다.

I'm Dr. Lee Jong-cheol, whom you met last year(2019) at the held by the Hegel Society of Korea.

I've introduced to you that I was translating your book into Korean.

I'm sorry that I couldn't have a deep talk with you because of your busy schedules at the time.

I told you then that this book will be available around the summer of 2019.

However, due to the publisher's backlog, it's possible around October.

At that time, I did not see the proofreading of the manuscript, but I finished it this time.

Looking at the manuscript again, I felt that the contents of the book were quite faithful.

I got a similar impression from this book a long time ago when I was reading J. Hypothesis'

For your information, I translated J. Hyppolite's books into two books in 1986 and 1988.

I have been teaching for a long time as a visiting professor and working as a researcher at the Institute of Humanities at Yonsei University in Korea.

Currently, I quit my university lectures and concentrate on translation and research.

Recently, G. Lukac's Bd. 1.2 has been translated into four Korean editions by me and my another researcher. Doctor Jung who had presided the Hegel Conference last year.

Anyway, I am honored to translate your book.

If you write the Korean preface of this book, I think you will be able to get closer to Korean readers.

The final compilation of the book will be finished by the end of July at the latest and will be published no later than October.

The publishing company also promised me to speed up the publication process.

As soon as I get the professor's recommendation, I'll translate it and hand it over to the publisher.

When the book is published, I will send it to you.
